Our Workshops
We combine traditional paper making techniques with a focus on utilising the local natural environment to create accessible, engaging and unique experiences for people of all ages and abilities.
Below is the rough workshop outline but we will work with you before hand to ensure we build the most accessible and relevant workshop for your organisation.
01
Introduction & Optional Nature Walk
A quick introduction to the workshop and the history of paper making before we get stuck in! If we have the time and, we take this opportunity to get out into local nature to collect flowers, seeds, leaves... (anything really), to add to our pulp and paper sheets later on.
02
Pulp Creation & Customisation
Now its time to get the blenders out! Depending on the group we will either demonstrate the process of blending our pre soaked pulp or let them loose on the blenders themselves! The participants will experiment using different natural (including soaked nettles!) & synthetic pigments to colour their paper along with adding seeds, flowers, glitter (and much more) to their pulp.
03
Mould & Deckle
The bit everyone came for! Using a traditional Mould & Deckle we will demostrate how to press your loose pulp into proper paper sheets! Participants will have plenty of time to experiment with different pulps and additives to hone their craft! This is where their creativity can go wild, creating different thickness', shapes and designs. There is so much to explore in this part of the workshop!
04
Decoration
Once everyone has a nice stack of their freshly pressed paper, we will add yet more decoration to add even more creative potential! Here we can press flowers & leaves into the paper to create intricate designs, or layer sheets to allow them to play with the light through their varying transparencies
05
Pressing & Drying
Now for possibily the most important lesson of all... patience! We will demostrate how the pressing and drying process works before wrapping up the workshop and taking the paper offsite to dry over the course of a few days.
We will deliver this back to you on an agreed date within 3-7 days.
06
Explore at home!
Using the skills and foundational knowledge provided by the workshop, we hope participants can now continue their exploration and experimention at home! A home paper making set up is cheap to purchase and all the consumable materials can be found for free.
It is one of our goals of this workshop to spread this underappreciated workshop far and wide and get more people experimenting and being creative
